Dr. Mark S. Sanders, MD, FAAOS Houston Orthopedic Surgeon
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and
Identified as one of Houston´s "Top Docs"
in H Texas magazine, Mark S. Sanders, MD, FAAOS began his private Orthopaedic Surgery Practice in Houston in 1986.
He is a member of the medical staff of the Cypress Fairbanks Hospital Medical Center, the ROC Surgical Center, and is Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Surgical Specialty Hospital of America's Southeast Houston Campus. He specializes in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and the treatment of complex fractures. Dr. Sanders began advancing the development of the accelerated
ACL Reconstruction Rehabilitation protocol as early as
1987.
During his 28 year career in Orthopaedics, he has performed thousands of arthroscopic surgeries on severe
shoulder and knee injuries. His extensive knowledge of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries has enabled him to
not only help patients return to their previous level of athletic activity both with and without surgery, but also
address serious complications resulting from unsuccessful surgeries performed before his treatment. Dr. Sanders has
also treated numerous patients with tears of other knee ligaments, tears of the meniscal cartilages, and dislocation
of the patella.
Dr. Sanders' expertise extends also to the region of the shoulder. He has treated thousands of patients with
injuries to the Rotator Cuff - from impingement tendonitis, to massive rupture of the Rotator Cuff. In the majority
of these cases, his patients responded well to non-surgical treatment.
When surgery is necessary, Dr. Sanders´ vast experience in arthroscopy provides patients with less invasive surgery
options.
Dr. Sanders is one of the few specialists, who regularly repairs the Rotator Cuff without a major arthrotomy
(open incision). Dr. Sanders also specializes in problems resulting from the Unstable Shoulder and believes that most
of these problems as well can be managed without surgery. When surgical treatment is necessary, Arthroscopic
Reconstruction of the Glenohumeral (Shoulder) ligaments makes a major arthrotomy unnecessary.
Despite his vast surgical experience, this New York native is one of the only Orthopaedic Surgeons in Houston to
champion a healthy, non-surgical reconditioning program
for common knee and shoulder injuries that combines personal certified trainers, a whole-body wellness plan
and progress tracking. His innovative use of a nutritional plan and certified trainers has proven to be a successful
combination in today's health and activity-conscious society that is aging stronger than generations past.
Dr. Sanders is married to Beth Sanders and they have three children aged 26, 22, and 14.
